We Know Your Time is Important
We know your time is valuable. If you love knitting but don’t think of it as a precise craft, or if you are unwilling to explore the possibilities our website offers, this resource might not be for you. Similarly, if you do not make swatches or consider calculations unnecessary before starting a new project, we suggest exploring other types of projects.
No workshops are sold or bought on this website. Instead, you can create your own workshops for almost any item — not just garments — in just a few minutes. To do this, spend some time learning how to use the tools and ideas offered by the website.
Registration and using the website are completely free. If you would like to support the project so it can continue to exist and grow, you can subscribe via your account or make a one-time contribution using the “Support us” button.
Knitinspire.com works on mobile devices, though not all tools are ideal for smartphone use. Editing patterns or stitch charts on a phone requires patience and dexterity, and results may vary.
Creating Patterns
There are two ways to create patterns on the website:
-
KnitPattern Builder – Select a model from the website library, choose sleeve and neckline style, fit, and apply measurements. The system automatically generates patterns for each element (back, front, sleeves, collar, etc.). For now, only knitted garments are included, but accessories like bags and cases will be added soon.
-
Cut & Shape – Create a pattern entirely from scratch for any article, not just garments.
Once a pattern is ready, you can enter swatch data and perform automatic calculations. These calculations provide:
-
Yarn amounts for the entire article and for individual parts (in weight or length)
-
Stitches and row counts, ready to apply stitch patterns
Use the Stitch Chart Editor to apply or create any stitch pattern. The Stitch Library offers a wide selection of stitch patterns, including jacquard, knitting, and crochet patterns. Specify the pattern repeat (rapport) for symmetry, or simply create standalone stitch patterns to save and print charts.
Project Reports and Online Knitting
Each project generates a Final Report with all necessary data:
-
Model description
-
Tools and yarns used (linked to swatches if applicable)
-
Stitch patterns, charts, and photos
-
Yarn requirements
-
Sketches, instructions, and increase/decrease tables
-
Assembly instructions
You can edit the report, add photos or drawings, and export it as PDF or print it.
Use Online Knitting to control the knitting process row by row for any element.
Personal Catalogs
Maintain your own catalogs for:
-
My Tools – knitting needles, hooks, counters
-
My Yarns – yarn types, colors, amounts, prices, storage
-
My Stitch Patterns – created or saved stitch charts
-
My Swatches – record and reuse swatch data
-
My Projects – unlimited project storage
Catalog data can be cross-referenced. For example, swatch information can automatically recalculate a pattern for a different yarn or technique.
All your data belongs to you — no one else can use it. The more you document, the easier it is to create new projects efficiently.
We designed this website to save time and simplify repetitive tasks in knitting and designing. We hope it supports your hobby and inspires creativity. If you notice errors or have suggestions, please share them — your feedback helps us improve!
Respectfully,
The Knitinspire Team
