Baby onesie in the Honeycomb pattern
🔹I’ve long wanted to knit a baby onesie using the "Honeycomb" pattern. The onesie is designed for a child aged 12–18 months.
🔸The pattern is very beautiful, textured, and self-sufficient.
🔹The pattern repeat is 4 rows. The number of stitches should be a multiple of 2.
🔸This pattern uses more yarn than stockinette stitch and requires smaller needles to look nice.
🔹I used 400 grams of Baby Alpaca Silk by Drops (167m/50g).
🔸I knitted with two strands held together using 4 mm needles.
🔹Gauge: 1.26 stitches/cm, 4.5 rows/cm.
🔸I didn’t add extra length to the back at the waist, as short rows distort this pattern. But the pattern stretches well, so the onesie fits nicely.
🔹I knitted the onesie bottom-up. First, I made the legs separately, then joined them and continued knitting in one piece up to the armholes. From there, I worked the back and fronts separately.
🔸I made paired decreases within the fabric (from hips to armholes on both sides of the imaginary side seam), which makes them almost invisible.
🔹I made increases right after the edge stitch, incorporating them into the pattern in the next row if the stitch count became even.
🔸If the number of stitches after an increase was odd, I knitted the "extra stitch" in stockinette stitch.
🔹To shape the underarms and neckline, I bound off stitches without using short rows.
🔸All the bands and cuffs were knit with 2x2 ribbing on 2 mm needles. On larger needles, the ribbing looked loose with this yarn. Note: the neckband is double, so the pattern shows it with “double width.”
🔹The instructions contain a more detailed description of the knitting process.
